A SHADOW IN THE FIELD

"Earlier on the journey, something had caught my eye from the train and having drifted from my thoughts it now returned to my mind as the temperature dropped and the wind picked up along the coast road. Have you ever seen something that you caught in the corner of your eye? I looked up from my book to look out the window and saw someone standing in a field. It would have been late in the afternoon I recalled now and it seemed that a person out there alone would be out of place, far from any road and watching the train as it passed. Before I knew it, it had disappeared from view behind the blur of trees and gorse lining the track. A shadow person, like the one who had reached a hand through the letterbox of my front door, when I lived on the second floor of a maisonette - the first house I remembered."
